YouTube thumbnail dimensions and upload limits
YouTube currently recommends 3840 × 2160 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio for landscape video thumbnails, with a minimum width of 640 pixels. Mobile video-thumbnail uploads have a 2 MB limit; desktop uploads have a 50 MB limit. The 1280 × 720 export is a smaller 16:9 option. Enlarging a low-resolution original cannot restore missing detail.
